Mark, you are absolutely right. I can think of many reasons why someone would very legitimately be sleepy and/or distracted from the service, and I don't want anyone in that category to feel condemned. In fact, I emailed one person that came to mind to tell him that I didn't want him to concern himself with this at all.

Dave, the sleepiness post is extremely helpful. I served in a SGM church for 7 years and it was was hugely transformative for my soul, my attitude, and my perceptions of lay ministry.

I want to point out that there are some rare cases where someone cannot help themselves from nodding off. For instance, I began to nod off during meetings despite plenty of sleep because unbeknownst to me, I had a slowly developing case of a rare type of pneumonia. So, sometimes the reason may be medical. In which case the person should temporarily step away from visible areas of ministry with the blessing of the rest of the ministry team.

Well, your observations are well received. Since I'm hidden away in the video production room, I sometimes do other reading or other distraction during second sermon. I agree with "sticking with the program" through the end.

On the flip side - this past Sunday I actually got so caught up in the service - that I missed a cue. A different one in each service. Go figger. Dennis
